Arm Set to Launch In-House Chip with Meta as Initial Client

Arm is reportedly gearing up to unveil its first in-house processor this summer, with Meta as the launch customer, according to The Financial Times. This new CPU is designed for data center servers and offers customization options for clients. Manufacturing will be outsourced to a contract fab, likely TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.) .

This initiative follows SoftBank’s announcement of the Stargate project, a $500 billion partnership with OpenAI, where Arm will play a vital role alongside Microsoft and NVIDIA. The upcoming chip could also support Jony Ive’s AI-powered personal device, developed in collaboration with OpenAI’s Sam Altman .

Historically, Arm has licensed its technology to major firms like Apple, but this move puts it in direct competition with clients like NVIDIA, which produces its own Arm-based server CPUs. Meanwhile, Arm faces a legal dispute with Qualcomm over licensing terms, while SoftBank is reportedly close to acquiring server chip designer Ampere, crucial for Arm’s chipmaking venture .
