Google is enhancing transparency in AI-generated content by introducing SynthID watermarks for images edited with its Magic Editor. This technology, launched by Google DeepMind in 2023, allows for imperceptible digital markings on any content created using generative AI.
Now, users of the Reimagine feature in Magic Editor will notice a watermark on their edited photos, making it easier to identify AI’s influence. The tool enables users over 18 on Pixel 9 or later to modify their images with prompts like “autumn leaves.” Once edited, the watermark can be viewed by clicking “About this image.”
This development underscores the importance of labeling AI-generated work as the technology continues to evolve.
