A grassroots movement to protest against Elon Musk’s controversial actions is set to take place on February 15, with demonstrations planned at Tesla dealerships across the U.S. The initiative, sparked by disinformation researcher Joan Donovan and filmmaker Alex Winter on Bluesky, aims to draw attention to Musk’s perceived lack of transparency and accountability in his dealings with the federal government.
Donovan, who emphasized the importance of public activism, was inspired by small protests that emerged recently. “If Musk thinks he can speed run through DC downloading personal data, we can certainly bang some pots and pans on the sidewalks,” she stated, promoting the hashtag #TeslaTakeover. Winter added, “Hurting Tesla is stopping Musk, and stopping Musk will help save lives and our democracy.”
As of Friday, 42 protest events have been organized in cities like Austin, Portland, and New York, with hundreds of participants expected. Activists hope to raise awareness and potentially impact Tesla’s stock price, which is significantly tied to Musk’s wealth. This movement reflects a growing concern over Musk’s influence and the call for accountability within the tech industry. ✨
