Instagram Tests New Downvote Button to Enhance Comment Moderation

Instagram is currently testing a new feature that allows users to privately express their discontent with specific comments. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, this downward-facing arrow button will appear next to the existing like button on comments.

When pressed, the action remains anonymous, meaning other users won’t see who downvoted a comment, and there’s no public dislike count. Mosseri mentioned that this feedback could eventually influence comment rankings, helping to promote a more positive environment on the platform.

An Instagram spokesperson emphasized the goal of enhancing user control and experience, stating that this feature is being trialed with a select group of users. If successful, it could lead to disliked comments being ranked lower in the feed, fostering a friendlier atmosphere on Instagram. ✨
